Blues too strong for Saints

Tumby Bay hosted Eyre United in the Anzac Match, but after a big build up to the game it turned out to be a one-sided affair with the Blues crushing the Saints by 131 points. They dominated the game from start to finish and the Saints were never in the contest as they were totally outclassed across the ground. Tumby Bay kicked 7 goals in an impressive first quarter performance with James, Lawrie, and Fair dominating the midfield and Ackland and Monfries excellent up forward. The second quarter was Eyre United’s best despite being outscored as the Forrest boys worked into the game and Betts and Warrior provided some good moments. Tumby Bay stepped up again after half time with another 7-goal quarter as Ky Miller and Joe Walker repelled everything across half back and yougsters Franks and Richardson gave them plenty of run.

The last quarter continued in similar vein as Eyre United failed to hit the scoreboard after half time and the Blues piled on another 5 goals as Monfries dominated up forward and Lawrie, Higgins and Miller continued to find plenty of the ball. It was an impressive performance by Tumby Bay albeit against limited opposition as it looks like it could be a long season for the Saints. Mitch Lawrie picked up the Anzac Medal, Miller was outstanding all day, Monfried dominated up forward booting 8 and Higgins, Richardson, James and Walker all had impressive games. The Saints were best served by Clifford Warrior, Tom and Luke Forrest, and Betts and Telfer in defence.
