For a long time, it was thought that Cummins were awarded the 1911 premiership (Great Flinders first year of competition) after defeating Shannon in the grand final 4-7 (31) vs 3.8 (26)
Whilst this much is true, newspaper articles from the day recorded that Shannon being the minor premier had earned the right to a ‘Challenge Final’ as per the constitution.
Any record of that match being played let alone a result could never be found…..until now.
The game was indeed played and won by Shannon 2-7 (19) vs Cummins 0-4 (4)
