The minor round is over as all roads point towards Lock for what is shaping up to be an exciting day of football.
Join us as we preview all the action ahead of the first semifinal.
Senior Colts – 10:00am
Cummins Kapinnie vs Elliston Districts
Two exciting young sides will kick off the Great Flinders finals series nice and early on the big Lock oval.
Cougars will be coming into this game as favourites, defeating the Roosters in both games so far this season.
Both teams have players that have played plenty of senior football which will hold them in good stead in what is shaping up to be difficult and windy conditions.
Mitch Blacker has been a force up forward for Cougars this year, finishing the season with 45 goals and often kicking goals when given the chance to play A Grade football.
The Roosters will be looking towards their older players in Jarrah Donovan and Chaz Harrowfield to kick a winning score.
The first side to adapt to the conditions will likely run out the winners in this match.
Mini Colts – 11:40am
Eyre United vs Elliston Districts
All eyes will be on the Mini Colts at midday.
The last time these two sides met, it was a draw at 32pts apiece, setting up for what could be the closest match of the day.
Both sides have dominant goalkickers with the Saints led by Levi Charlton and the Roosters looking towards Jaxon Shepperd.
The wind is likely to play big havoc in this match but with 30 players often around the ball at once, it should be protected as much as possible.
B Grade – 12:45pm
Ramblers vs Lock
What a game this one is shaping up to be.
Ramblers look to have finally regained majority of their players back into the A Grade meaning it will filter down and significantly strengthen their B Grade.
Lock, on the other hand, have the luxury of their A Grade playing next week allowing some players to stake a claim for selection.
The midfield battle between both sides are full of former A Grade players with Cody Pilgrim, Jordy Darling and Wade Starke likely up against Andrew Hetzel, Luke Northcott and Thomas Kammermann.
Ned Schubert impressed up front for the Magpies last weekend, finishing with 4 goals against Lock and will have to be monitored closely whilst Pearson and Parsons look to be a dangerous forward line for the Roos.
Both sides have key position players who can change a game quickly with a matchup between Zac Richardson and Justin Beard looking likely at some stage.
Ramblers will be going into this game as hot favourites, however the Roos will enjoy the home ground advantage.
A Grade – 2:30pm
Cummins Ramblers vs Tumby Bay
Ramblers
Ins – Blair Buchanan, Wes Bilney, Ethan Langley, Kadyn Bryant, James Richardson
Outs – Cody Modra, Wade Starke, Henry Treloar, Phoenix Milburn, Jackson Lockett
Tumby Bay
Ins – Josh Cave, Justin Bugeja
Outs – Harry LeBrun, Brodie Higgins
Talk about mouth-watering matchups. A rivalry entrenched in history with plenty of rep footy and higher representation from both sides.
Ramblers hold a 2-1 win record against the Blues so far this season, however, the game this weekend will be the first time both teams will be fielding anything close to a full team.
The midfield battle of Treloar, Langley, Buchanan and Chandler up against the McDonalds, Sumner, McLeod and Murphy will be worth the price of entry alone. Ramblers likely to have the advantage of strength around the contest, but the speed and x factor advantage leans towards the Blues.
The potency of both forward lines means it will likely come down to whatever side receives more inside 50’s and converts their opportunities in windy conditions likely to be blowing straight across the ground.
The experienced heads at opposite ends at opposite ends of the ground in Nigel James and Wes Bilney will be crucial to the end result, both players averaging close to 3 goals kicked per game.
This match could easily go either way with Lock and United Yeelanna likely not wanting to face the winner in the Preliminary Final.
