Every week is another week closer to the final’s series. Let’s preview all of this weeks action below.
Cummins Ramblers vs Cummins Kapinnie
Ramblers
Ins – Cody Modra, Ashton Howard-Ham, Joel Modra, Gus Crettenden
Outs – Blair Buchanan, Billy Pilgrim, Jacob Parsons, Henry Treloar
Cougars
Ins – Jake Mahoney, Dylan Doudle, Max Turnbull, Harry Shepperd Outs – Jack Green, Alex Marinelli, Jayden Evans, Rhys Evans
The biggest rivalry in Great Flinders will renew this weekend with Cougars looking for their second win and Ramblers looking to consolidate their position in the four.
After getting their first win of the season 2 weeks ago, Cummins Kapinnie crashed back to reality last weekend against the premiership favourites in United Yeelanna.
Ramblers will be coming into this fresh off the bye, however several key players will be missing this weekend.
The battle between Louis Green and Will Haarsma will be a good one to watch with Green likely to try and limit the influence of Haarsma around the ground and at stoppages.
For Cougars to win this game, they will need a massive performance from their coach in Thomas Phelps whether it be across half-forward or in the ruck.
The Magpies, however, look to have too much to play for at this stage in the season and should win by 4-5 goals.
United Yeelanna vs Tumby Bay
United Yeelanna
Ins – Dane Habner Outs – Reece Francis
Tumby Bay
Ins – Grant McLeod Outs – Tyson Whitelaw
The two best sides so far this year will face off in what could be a Grand Final preview.
United Yeelanna are coming off an impressive win against Cougars last weekend, whereas Tumby Bay managed a tough 5 goal win over Lock despite not playing their best football at times.
Matt Crettenden has been on absolute fire for the Eagles, kicking 52 goals from only 5 games and will have to be nullified by the Tumby Bay defence – maybe a Joe Walker match-up?
The midfield battle should be an exciting one, with the experience and strength of the Eagles in Crettenden, Watson and Maxfield up against the breakneck speed of Tumby Bay in Sumner and McLeod.
Tumby Bay’s spiritual leader in Mitch Lawrie will play his 100th game for the Blues this weekend as they look to upset the Eagles at home.
This should be a hard-fought battle between the two sides, however, the Eagles at home is one of the toughest tasks in SA football. Eagles by under 4 goals.
Elliston Districts vs Lock
Elliston Districts
Ins – Rhys Kelsh, Henry Guerin, Harvey Fleming, Lachlan Forward, Outs – Jason Thompson, Toby Baker, Cooper Van Doorn, Luke Hutchinson, Tom Lee, Kysen Shepperd
Lock
Ins – Ryan Siebert, Josh Crosby, Brayden Crosby, Justin Beard, Dayley Beard Outs – Guy Morton, Luke Northcott, Sam Pearce, Alex Wiseman, Declen Allen
Plenty of ins and outs for both sides who are desperate for a win.
As mentioned last week, every match from here is a mini elimination final for the Roosters who must win this game to be any chance of finishing top 4.
Lock will still be missing 7-8 first choice personnel and one would have to wonder whether this will affect them in the finals. The Roos will welcome back their dangerous forward in Ryan Siebert who will return from an ankle injury.
The Roosters will miss Cooper Van Doorn in the midfield who has been one of the most consistent players in the league this year. This loss should be balanced out by the return of Rhys Kelsh in the ruck.
These sides sit at one win apiece against the other this season. It will be a long road trip for the Roos up to Minnipa but I’m going to back them to win a close one to get some momentum before the finals series.
