Great Flinders Round 16 Preview

Two minor rounds remain in season 2024 for the Great Flinders Football League.

Finals spots looked to be wrapped up in both senior grades, however some jostling for positions could still come into effect depending on results.

Join us as we preview all the action for this weekend.

Eyre United vs Lock

Eyre United

Ins – Archie Coote, Declan Phillis

Outs – Tom Forrest, William Turner

Lock

Ins – Ty George, Lachlan Heath, Fletcher Kammermann, Levi Brown, Billy Brown, Brody Burrows

Outs – Travis Beard, Majoor Ackland, Luke Durdin, Jack Humphries, Boyd West, Sam Pearce

Eyre United host Lock in what will be their final game for all sides (except Mini Colts).

Both sides are coming in at opposite ends of the ladder with the Roos coming off a 146pt win against Cougars last weekend, whereas the Saints are coming off a 97pt loss to an improved Ramblers outfit.

Lock unfortunately suffered several casualties in their win last week and this game will test their depth up against Eyre United who will also be without several of their key players in Turner and Forrest.

Lock’s midfield has improved significantly this season, led by big man Aaron Beard who has been named in the best players in his past 5 games, along with Casey Beard, Guy Morton and Macaulay Glover.

Eyre United have continued their improvement as a side this season, getting plenty of game time into their youth, but have struggled running out games, particularly in the final quarter.

The battle between Damian Kelly and Max Baldissera is always one to watch for both sides, two key pillars of their teams who play the game hard and fair.

Although Locks outs will bridge the gap between the two sides, the Roos should be far too strong across the ground for the Saints.

Tumby Bay vs Ramblers

Tumby Bay

Ins – Tyree Burgoyne, Dylan Eatts, Josh Cave, Harry LeBrun

Outs – Harry Degner, Jaylen Cox, Maddox Hunt, Olly Juet

Ramblers

Ins – Blair Buchanan, Wes Bilney, Jackson Lockett, Cody Modra

Outs – James Richardson, Henry Treloar, Wade Starke, Ned Schubert

A preview of the first semi-final between will be on show this weekend.

Tumby Bay are coming off a considerable loss to United Yeelanna last weekend whereas the Magpies are fresh off a confidence boosting win against Eyre United at home.

Both sides will be looking to make a statement against the other with a win apiece so far in the season.

After being smashed by injuries throughout the season, Ramblers are slowly starting to get players back filtering through at the right time of year.

The ins of Buchanan and Bilney will be vitally important whereas the Blues are still missing some key players who will be looking to get back into the side before the first semi-final.

The midfield battle is loaded with young stars of the competition including Jackson Murphy, Latrelle Sumner and Oz Richardson for the Blues and Harlee Chandler, Ethan Langley and Darcy Claughton for the Magpies.

Anytime these two sides match up you can expect fireworks. A game well and truly up in the air.

Good luck to Harry LeBrun playing his first A Grade game for the Blues this weekend.

Elliston Districts vs Cummins Kapinnie

Elliston Districts

Ins – Brandon Rosalia, Fraser Smith, Rhys Kelsh, Zane Coleman, Joseph Kennedy, Jed Kenny

Outs – Wayne Moroney, Oska Richards, Ross Bascomb, Toby Baker, Scott Feltus, Jason Thompson

Cummins Kapinnie

Ins –  Dyl Wandner, Billy Mahoney

Outs -  Brodie Laube, Ben Crawford

Although finals are out of the question, both sides will be coming into this game desperate for a win.

Cougars were simply overwhelmed by a bigger bodied, mature Lock side last weekend whereas the Roosters will be coming in fresh off a bye.

Jack and Jay Green have been in great form for Cummins Kapinnie this season and the battle between them against Matthew Williams and Kody Rosalia could decide the game.

Thomas Phelps had the tough role last weekend trying to repel attacks up against Locks tall forward line, where he lines up this weekend could be an interesting watch.

Finn Rienets has been super consistent for the Roosters down back this year, named in the best players in his past 4 games.

Looking at the list of both sides, there isn’t much between the two, however being back at Rooster park, Elliston Districts will be going into this game as favourites.
