Great Flinders Round 9 Preview

Local football is back in Great Flinders after a disappointing Mortlock Shield by the Maroons lofty standards, despite beating eventual champions, Western Eyre.

In the second week of the split round, Lock, Cummins Kapinnie and Eyre United will have the bye, leaving us with two outstanding season defining games.

Join us as we preview this week’s games below:

Elliston Districts vs Cummins Ramblers

Elliston Districts

Ins -Rhett Schumann, Jed Kenny, Jason Thompson, Scott Feltus Outs – Ross Bascomb, Brody Kenny, Damon King, Dane Swan

Ramblers

Ins – Zakk Bullard, Mitch Dennis, Billy Pilgrim Outs – Jake Skinner, George Pedler, Jack Treloar

This could be a season defining match for both sides battling out for the 4th position.

Last time these two sides met it was the Roosters who looked home at 3 quarter time before Ramblers came charging home late to snatch a last-gasp victory.

Young Magpies star Ethan Langley was excellent over the Mortlock Shield, finishing the carnival as the leading goal kicker.

With both teams having plenty of young talent, it could be the two veteran’s that have a large say in the outcome of the match.

Both sides have plenty of avenues to goal and it’s likely to come down to which side is most accurate in front of the big sticks.

Tumby Bay vs United Yeelanna

Tumby Bay

Ins – Connor Newton, Jacob Cave, Jaylen Cocks (1st game) Outs – Matt Hartwig, Lachie Gale, Tom Kelly, Ky Miller

United Yeelanna

Ins – Zac Glover, Alex Glover, Aaron Watson, Stephen Conlan Outs – Ben Carr, Jason Ridley +2 more

The top two sides throughout the first half of the year will face off in what could be a Grand Final preview.

The last time these two sides faced each other it was the Eagles who just got over the line in a low scoring affair.

The loss of 3 big bodies for Tumby Bay will be sorely missed around the ground, but they’ve proven throughout the year so far that personnel doesn’t matter.

Ben Carr has had an outstanding year in defence for the Eagles and will be missed after suffering a shoulder injury at the Mortlock Shield on the weekend.

Stephen Conlan will be an important inclusion, up against the height of Tom and Jack McDonald in the ruck.

With both of these sides providing a fair chunk of the Mortlock Shield side, expect a high quality contest.

Until the Eagles finally lose a game, you simply can’t tip against them.
